Advertising Signs on City Property July/2016

A local company contacted OWBA inquiring if the city had removed their advertising signs (lawn signs). The company asked if the signs could be recovered and requested information on the bylaws concerning the issue.

OWBA forwarded the inquiry to the city and were promptly addressed by officials stating that no lawn signs are permitted on city property. However, the signs in question were not removed by city staff, therefore recovery was impossible.

Ottawa Theme Park Locations

The city is looking for a location for a theme park. Three sites are under consideration, including the Rideau Carleton Entertainment facility, and the property across from the racetrack which was purchased for the Central Canada Exhibition which was in Landsdowne Park for years.

The city is revisiting the issue and will report on it in September.

Hydro One

OWBA Membership Officer Richard Woods reported on the town hall meeting of the Ontario Ombudsman regarding hysdro rate issues. About 250 people attended and it was a bit of a disappointment.  The Ombdsman can only address issues of billing, and cannot do anything about having rural Ottawa customers moved from Hydro One to Ottawa Hydro.  The Ontario Energy Board does not want this change.  Councillor George Darouze will continue to work the issue.
